Metabolic health is determined by how efficiently the body converts food into energy and balanced use of glucose and fats for fuel. In this nutrition discussion, we talk nutrition basics such as protein, carbohydrates, and fats and discuss various protocols and who they may benefit. The truth is there is no “one size fits all” approach and having a practitioner to guide an individual is the best way.
Cognitive reserve (CR) is our brain’s resilience to preserve function in the presence of disease or injury. Individuals with dementia who have a higher CR may present with less or minimal symptoms well into the disease process. CR is boosted by our education, experiences, and occupations. In this session, we teach you how to measure your CR, how to boost it, and explain why going on vacation is better for your brain than doing crossword puzzles.
Motor reserve (MR) is similar to cognitive reserve except it’s all about an individual’s capacity for movement and adaptability to novel stimulus. Spanning way beyond traditional fitness metrics, MR includes strength, aerobic capacity, coordination, respiratory strategy, sensory inputs, cognitive function, and many more. In the presence of Parkinson’s disease, having a high MR decreases the motor disruptions that occur with the disease process. This discussion is a fascinating presentation that explains how to increase MR and overall fitness with non-traditional exercise approaches.

Words can’t describe how much I appreciate what Preventive Neurology has done to reduce my risk of neurological disease and improve my overall health.
